Well, the Golden Globes have come and gone, but the afterglow of the attending gifting suites lingers on. With my January 14 birthday falling the day before the awards telecast, (which I wanted to spend not working,) I was left with only one day to check-out all the suites, so I was able to make it to only three. (But they’re the ones that count!) I’m featuring each suite in it’s own column, in the order of my visits. (So please check the past two days to get all the juicy scoops.)

I finished up the day at the service-centric DPA suite, which was most welcome, especially by then. I believe I missed at least one service, but when I arrived and saw the inviting massage tent, courtesy of The Massage Express, I just couldn’t resist. I really must commend, and thank, founder of the company, Courtney DuCaine, for not skimping on the time. It was late in the day, and getting dark outside on the lovely rooftop of the Luxe Hotel in Beverly Hills, and she could have just gone through the motions. No one would have blamed her for making it a quickie. But she gave me the full treatment, which is exactly what I needed after carrying bags loaded with gifts from the other suites all day. I just wish I had time to collect all the ones at this one, because they always have great items, but I’ll begin my week at this suite next time. www.themassageexpress.com

Totally relaxed, I moved on to a wonderful, peaceful bio-feedback treatment, called Edge Neuro Fitness. It treats all kinds of conditions, but this time I desperately needed it for stress this time because of the recent pain of losing my beloved mother on Christmas. Becky Bassham, the specialist who administered the treatment, could not have been kinder or more understanding. www.edgeneurofitness.com

Photo of Karen Salkin and Didi Mai Tamaki-Desmarais by Daniel Desmarais. All other photos by Karen Salkin.

As I was leaving the suite, I noticed a new lash treatment from Padina Cosmetics out of France. The lovely French man who founded the company introduced me to his daughter from Japan, and I mentioned that I loved her eyelashes. It turns out that she was there applying individual ones to the guests. As it was the very end of the day, she took me right in and made me look like it was the beginning of the day!!! I looked so good, I was finally regretting canceling my birthday party for the next night. At least I looked great for my 2:03AM photo that I stay up to take as I turn my next age. Nutty, I know. But fun to look back on these past twenty-one years. www.padinacosmetics.com www.cildor.net

With all this pampering, I had time to collect only a couple of gifts. One fabulous discovery, though, I hope to feature in my Valentine’s Gift Ideas column, so be sure to watch out for that. Here are the others I got to:

Dry Clean Green Bag—this is a wonderful idea! It’s an attractive bag that you hang in your closet to collect your clothing for dry-cleaning. You just bring it to the cleaner and they hang up to twelve items in it to give back to you, thus eliminating all that plastic wrap! As a crazy re-cycler, I love it. And, there’s even a convenient place to hang the excess hangars, so the same ones can be used again and again. I think your cleaners should even give you a discount because you’re saving them on the cost of multiple hangers. www.drycleangreenbag.com

Manuka Doctor Honey and Face Mask—this in an interesting company out of New Zealand, where one of my best friends lives. (So I always trust that country.) They make several wellness and beauty products, to nourish us from the inside out. So, they were gifting actual honey for eating, (which you can also use on your face,) and bee venom to use as a rejuvenating face mask! I had never before realized just how important bees are to our overall health! I can’t wait to use them both. I just better keep the jars in separate rooms, so I don’t mistakenly put the mask in my tea. www.manukadr.co.nz

That’s it for DPA this time. Please remember to look back at the other Golden Globes suites columns this week, if you missed them. I have to go rest up for the next round of suites, which are less than a month away! I hope there will be as many services as DPA because I’ll definitely need them by then! Or even, right this very second!

Well, the Golden Globes has come and gone, but the afterglow of the attending gifting suites lingers on. I had only one day to check them all out, so I was able to make it to only three. (But they’re the ones that count!) I’m featuring each suite in it’s own column, in the order of my visits. (So please check yesterday’s and tomorrow’s to get all the juicy scoops.)

GBK’s set-up on the rooftop of Beverly Hills’ L’Ermitage Hotel was perhaps their most beautiful to date. And the weather was perfect the day I visited, especially for January!

As always, they had a beautiful, classy, easy-to-eat-while-socializing buffet, catered by the hotel, who I wish still served afternoon tea, especially after tasting their wonderful tea sandwiches.

GBK is the suite known for attracting the most celebrities, but I was too busy paying attention to the sponsors to really notice who was there this time. I did spy Oscar winner Jeremy Irons, which was an unusual sighting, The Big Bang Theory‘s Mayim Bialik, and the football coach from Glee, Dot-Marie Jones.

The gifts were a lovely combo of new and past sponsors, so let’s get to the highlights:

All photos by Karen Salkin.

The Artisan Group—When I received this incredible group of goodies, it was the first time I was happy that I had cancelled my birthday party for the next night! None of my guest could have come close to rivaling these gifts. They’re from a collective of artists in all fields, and the gift bag contained everything from jewelry to bookmarks to stationery to calendars, and beyond. It was truly the most overwhelming gift I have ever gotten at any gifting suite anywhere ever! Even the packaging on each gift was beautiful!!! I don’t want to single out any one item, so just go to their website and check-out the array for yourselves. Right this minute! www.theartisangroup.org [Note: the next time I run into them at a suite, I think they'll have to get their own column.]

Revitalash Advanced—regular readers should know by now how much I love this leader in the eyelash-growing industry. They’ve even improved the basic formula, which was already fabulous, and now also feature it for hair on your head and eyebrows. They even have mascara I swear by and blue-hued primer for underneath it. www.revitalash.com

Centerville Pies—I couldn’t tear myself away from this table! (Nor could any of the other guests, by the way.) It’s a pie company from Cape Cod, and they were serving the most delicious chicken pot pie I’ve ever tasted. I actually don’t even like chicken pot pie much, but I could have eaten a whole one of theirs! It was scrumptious. (They were serving cherry pie, too, but I didn’t want to cheat on my chicken.) In talking with the chefs, I discovered that they employ only disabled adults, (they’ve partnered with a local non-profit with the perfect moniker, Cape Abilities,) which is even more wonderful than the taste of their pies, if that’s even possible. www.centervillepies.com

Romi Digital Foundation—I’ve never worn face make-up, except for my show, modeling gigs, or shooting a movie. But now that I found this digital foundation kit from Romi, I think applying it will be a no-brainer. And fun! I can’t wait to use it! www.romibeauty.com

Sandra Brooks Collection Jewelry—my mouth was watering for any piece of one-of-a-kind jewelry from the Sandra Brooks Collection, which she hand-crafts in Atlanta. They’re a mix of necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, for both men and women, and feature gemstones and pearls. [Note: don't get attached to the three-pearl bracelet in the front of the photo; it's happily mine now!] www.sandrabrookscollection.com

DNA Imprints—this one is pretty interesting: it’s designs on wall prints, or apparel, made from your own DNA, done from a swab you take yourself and mail to them! I was joking with the rep that maybe it was a sting operation, to find felons in the Hollywood community, (especially since the opening line on their site is, “Our story is one of intrigue and destiny,”) but I guess that’s where my writer’s mind goes. I see everything as a blockbuster film! (If only I would start writing them!) www.dnaimprints.com

TC Intimates—I almost couldn’t get to the suite in time because at home, I couldn’t find my perfect panties…which are made by TC Intimates!!! (They were still in my suitcase from my recent New York trip.) I was so happy to see them at the suite that I just had to show the ones I was wearing (under my skirt, of course,) to everyone there! (Thank goodness the guy closest to the private peep show was cute!) This is seriously the best-fitting, most comfortable line of undergarments ever! (And trust me, I’ve tried them all.) www.cupidintimates.com

G Wear—as a lover of black attire and bright colors in general, I was instantly drawn to this table of tees and scarves that have colorful appliqués (many on a black background) that are made from re-cycled tee-shirts themselves. Wish I had thought of this one! And had the talent to make them look so great. And fun! www.mygwear.com

Eos—Yet another colorful company, (Golden Globes suites are somehow more fun than the ones for the more serious awards, I think,) Eos was gifting fabulous-looking packages of lip balms and hand lotions, that we can use proudly in public. I actually used my balm on the spot, something that I never do! www.evolutionofsmooth.com

Beyond The Rack—this is an on-line shopping site, so they were gifting clothing from some of their featured brands. Clever. www.beyondtherack.com

Bota Box Wines—I think most people know by now that I don’t drink. But if I did, these colorful Bota Boxes would be it! They come in multiple flavors (if that’s the correct term for wines, which I’m assuming it isn’t) and the boxes look great. And both sizes are perfect for picnics, or the Hollywood Bowl. Or visiting the in-laws. www.botabox.com

Little Black Dress Vodka—again, I don’t drink, but what girl doesn’t want to have a bottle of vodka handy, especially from a company with the cute name of Little Black Dress? I heard it comes in flavors, and even a tee-totaler such as I would be happy to try a sip of the pineapple-honey. www.lbdvodka.com

That’s it for GBK this time. As always, there were many more companies than I had space to write about here, but I’ll continue to bring you the highlights of them as the year goes in, in several other columns. Check back tomorrow for the last Golden Globes suite, and please look at yesterday’s column, too, if you missed that one.

Well, the Golden Globes has come and gone, but the afterglow of the attending gifting suites lingers on. I had only one day to check them all out, so I was able to make it to only three. (But they’re the ones that count!) I’ll feature them one day at a time, though, in the order of my visits. (So please check back for the next two days to get all the juicy scoops.)

The Secret Room Lounges always feature fresh and innovative products. It’s great to have new products to laud to you guys on a regular basis.

The Secret Room was held once again held at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, a place where most of us are already comfortable. Let’s get right to the many new gifts I found, in several categories:

ART:

All photos by Karen Salkin.

Coloursburst Art–As I entered the suite, rocking my Lollipop Guild-esque striped thigh high socks, I was immediately drawn to the only other colorful people, the sponsors from Coloursbust Art. As most of you probably already know, my mother just went to heaven on Christmas, so I was comforted to see interior designer Elisa Marconi’s vibrant abstract paintings of angels. I could have spent the whole day at their table! www.coloursburst.com [Note: please note the “u” in the name, as they're from Canada.]

SKIN CARE:

Kelly Teegarden Organics—developed by a thyroid cancer survivor, not only are these beauty products chemical-free, but each of the ten lovely, subtle shades of their lipgloss comes with a perfect horizontal mirror on the side!!! Brilliant touch! www.kellyteegardenorganics.com

Spa De Soleil—they were gifting an anti-aging skin care system. If I come out looking like the gorgeous girl who’s their ambassador, I’ll bathe in the stuff!!! www.spadesoleil.com

CHILDREN:

Sprout—not having pre-school kids, I wasn’t aware of Sprout. But I was drawn to their table, with all the playful gifts, featuring Chica, their chicken character. The digital camera for a child’s small hands is exactly the gift I would have wanted back in the day. So, not that much has changed because I coveted it at the suite, too! www.sproutonline.com

Baby Hawk Baby Carrier–the best advertisement for these attractive, (and I hear, comfortable,) baby carriers, was the tiny baby who was resting comfortably in it at the suite. Adorable! www.babyhawk.com

Dolphin Organics—this line of baby bath products, including shampoo and conditioner, is all organic and natural, which seems to be the preferred way to go nowadays. And I really loved the attractive packaging, which is colorful enough for babies to enjoy looking at, (which means using, which is a good thing,) yet subtle enough to display in any bathroom. Or sink! www.dolphinorganics.com

FASHION:

Izzy And Ali Handbags—I’m a stickler when it comes to purses; I need them to look good, be big enough for my “necessary” junk, and not be too heavy for my bad back to lift and carry. These Izzy and Ali handbags fit all those criteria and are vegan, (though they don’t look it.) And every one is attractive, to boot. www.izzyandalihandbags.com

Sonas Jean Skirt—although my mouth was watering for the cute, very mini, patched-jean football-looking skirt, I decided to try-out some older people’s suggestions (you know who you are!,) of a bit longer one, and chose a more subdued, yet still hip, knee-length one. Hopefully, at the next suite, I’ll come away with Sonas’ patched jeans themselves, and everyone will be happy! www.sonasdenim.com

Chick Boss Necklaces—they were gifting necklaces, made from glass beads, that are hand-sewn in Guatemala. You can go on their site and match the attached ribbon to the artisan who hand-crafted yours! Nice touch. www.chickboss.com

SNACKS/HEALTH:

Chef Stef Candy—the first thing I spied while checking-in in the outer room of the suite was this gorgeous display of mouth-watering chocolate creations. Turns-out, they’re hand-made by Chef Stef of Long Beach, who’s a teacher by day and a chocolatier by night! (I used to be a teacher by day and a chocolate-eater by night! Almost the same. We could have been compatible roommates!) We got to fill our own candy containers, and trust me, if I had tried the confections first, I wouldn’t have been so polite to take only a couple of items! [Note: I also love the gorgeous picture on her site, designed by Christopher Cleary. Check it out!] www.chefstefcandy.com

Soy Joy—as a gifting suite veteran, I’m always happy to discover a sponsor who does things right. Soy Joy did just that. They had an attractive display with multi-color fruits, which are in their health bars, and were prepared with sturdy gift bags for all guests, which featured a perfect pack of their bars. They not only came in several flavors, but there were two of each, for the visitors who say things like, “And can I have one for my (friend, boyfriend, mother, stranger on the street, etc.)?” www.soyjoy.com

Stephen James Luxury Organics—these snacks looked so good that I actually spent some thinking they were beauty products! I love the names of their healthy snacks, (like Pizza Bar and Smart Bar,) and the colorful packaging, too. www.sjluxury.com

HAIR:

Pet Head Dog Shampoo—this is from the same people who bring us Bed Head people shampoo!!! I only wish that I had known about this line when Clarence was still on this level of life because we always wanted him to have the best. And our hair could have matched. In a great way. www.petheadshop.com

Suave Professionals—this been-around-forever brand was featuring their new “professional” line, mainly the spray dry shampoo. It’s perfect for a bon vivette like me who has enough hair for ten people (as stylists always tell me, while they’re spending two hours to blow it,) and not enough time to wash and re-style it every day. Now I can be ready for every last-minute event that comes my way, so keep those invites coming! www.suave.com

That’s it for the Secret Room this time. As always, there were many more companies than I had space to write about here, but I’ll continue to bring you the highlights of them as the year goes in, in several other columns. Check back tomorrow for yet another Golden Globes suite.

GBK 2011 ROCK N’ ROYALTY GIFT LOUNGE

The American Music Awards fall in November, which is one of my busiest months of the year, so I had time for only one gifting suite celebrating them. And which better than GBK? None, so here are the highlights:

Soulja Boy, (in the middle,) with some members of his posse. All photos by Karen Salkin.

First of all, I love that even though it was in the familiar, comfortable SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, this one had such a different vibe because it was mostly music business peeps. For example, I walked in right behind Soulja Boy and his posse. Trust me, that doesn’t happen at the suites for the Oscars. I loved it! I just followed behind them and was chillin’ for the rest of the afternoon, if you get my drift.

It was a cool, dark day out, so I especially loved that the food, catered by the hotel, had a lazy afternoon tea feel to it. It was all so wonderful! There were perfect-sized tea sandwiches, including peanut butter and banana, chicken salad, and lobster ones(!), and bite-sized treats like scones, pumpkin pies, and a crockenbush of cream-filled balls. All so yummy!

The sponsors were all very laid-back as well, which may have to do with the specialty cocktails some companies were serving. As most of you know, I don’t drink, but maybe I’ll feature them down the line, when I can have some of my reviewers try them out.

Here are some of my favorite gifts at GBK; I love the combo of old reliables and new discoveries:

My Pillow—judging by the fact that Mr. X slept for well over twelve hours the first night that he used this pillow, (he really needed it!,) I tend to think that all their wonderful claims are true! I’m just hoping that he’ll let me have a turn with it sometime soon, since I’m even more sleep-deprived than he is! www.mypillow.com

SGP Technology Cases—this company was a welcome addition to the suite. They were featuring attractive leather cases for iPhones and iPad, the latter of which I am a proud owner since an earlier round of suites. But the item I went the most nuts over was a clever stylus for the iPad! It makes working on it so much easier and plugs right into the corner of the tablet. And, in addition to other colors, SGP had what I call “Sleeping Beauty’s Dress” shades, powder blue and baby girl pink (my descriptions, not theirs,) which make my mouth water. And make me like technology better than I did before. www.sgpstore.com

NYX Cosmetics—when I was in New York recently, I saw a girl with excellent sparkly eyeshadow, which I always covet. It turned-out to be from this company, and I had to work hard to track it down. I had to go to New Jersey for it! And even then, the store had only the wrong product. But I still wound-up buying three of them! So, when I entered the suite and saw them there, I headed right over and had the beautiful and pleasant Mandy refresh my make-up. They still didn’t have the sparkles I was looking for, but the rest of the products looked really fun. If I ever get to try them for myself, I’ll give you guys the scoops then. wwwnyxcosmetics.com

Revitalash—boy, was I happy to see these guys again! I knew that I would be getting false eyelashes (the kind that stay on for a few weeks) at another event that week-end, and I needed to have some Revitalash handy for when I take them off…and my real lashes come with them! I need Revitalash to grow my real ones back, which is what it does. And, with their new formula, it happens even more quickly than before! Yay! www.revitalash.com

Priceco Tattoo Sleeves—I love this clever company! I eschew real tattoos, so these sleeves are perfect for fun temporary ones. They look really authentic, too! I should have put some on right at the suite, so I could have blended in with the music artists! Or better yet, worn their Prison Break shirt that gives you the same full-body tatted-up look as the lead character on that show had. So brilliant! (I just thought of this—maybe all those rappers are really wearing Tattoo Sleeves to begin with! Wouldn’t that be a riot?!) www.tattoosleeves.us

The IndiExhibit—one of my perennial GBK favorites, this group of artists gifted boxes of goodies once again. They basically feature something for all artistic sensibilities. This box surprised with a perfect afternoon tea hat! I wish I had opened the box at the suite, so I could have been appropriately-chapeau-ed for the fare they were serving. www.theindiexhibit.org

In addition to the food served by the hotel, there were two fun new companies that you should know about, which I hope to feature in my foodie extravaganza early next year, with the big reviews of them.

Polkatots Cupcakes—these adorable cupcakes were presented almost too attractively to eat! The individual gift boxes were so pretty. And this clever company is known best for their big, easy-to-pull-apart cakes that are made up of all cupcakes! I kept picturing my face on the top of one of them. In every way. www.polkatotscupcakes.com

Sushi Popper—I don’t eat sushi myself, but even I recognized how innovative this product is! It’s basically sushi on a stick, but it’s oh so much more than that. Check back in January to see if I have the deets on them, once I have others try them out. www.sushipopper.com

As usual, GBK also featured several charities. This time, we learned about Cuddly Bags, (www.facebook.com/cuddlybags) Drawing Hope International, (www.pointswithpurpose.com) and Art of Peace Charitable Trust. (www.aopct.org)

MAIN EVENT RED CARPET LOUNGE AND GREEN SUITE

I finished up the Emmys suites with a visit to Debbie Durkin’s Main Event Eco Lounge. I brought one of my assistants, Lucia, with me, and she was most impressed with the lovely relaxed vibe at this ” suite,” which was held once again on a gorgeous private estate in classy Hancock Park. It’s always the perfect one to end the pre-Emmys festivities with.

They whetted our appetites right from the start with an attractive display at the check-in table that showcased the gifts to come, including Vitaphenol skin cleanser, Tote Pets mini tote bags with adorable little 3-D animals on them, and boxed samples of Eco-Me cleaning and pet products.

Most happily for us, this was the only suite to have beauty services, which were totally welcome after the hectic week, which, for me, included flying back from New York the night before the Emmys suites began in earnest. ( I, sadly, missed a couple that had happened earlier in the week.)

Lucia and I spent time most of our time there with the stylists from the Tintura Salon, which has outposts in Claremont and Upland. The ladies were the most pleasant salon personnel ever! Tabitha and Trisha (who I now refer to as “TNT,”) flat-ironed my beginning-to-channel-Monica hair, and Susan gave us hand massages and treatments, which we really needed after gripping bags full of goodies all day!

While my hair was being worked on, I kept hearing hip music close to my head. I could not imagine from whence it came, but it turned out to be from the flat-iron!!! They were using the Hai Stick that comes with a built-in MP3player! What a brilliant idea to make a somewhat annoying task (for most of us,) more pleasant! Loving it.

Tintura is Hai’s rep and they got to bestow the musical styling tool on VIP guests, complete with a little “presenting”ceremony. Of course, I took the occasion to thank the Academy. But the music started playing me off…from my own Hai Stick!

I was also thrilled to finally meet Jim Robinson of J. R. Entertainment Consulting, the company from which I won the very iPad I’m writing these words on! I entered their raffle at the Main Event Lounge for the MTV Awards in June, and I can’t tell you how much it saved my life these past two months in NY. It kept me great company while I was sleeping (or attempting to) on my mother’s hospital room floor night after night. I believe they were raffling off another one at this Emmys suite, but, as I told Jim, no other winner will be as grateful as I.

There were several charities at this suite, but the ones I spent the most time with were Yes!Beat Liver Tumors and Athena’s Cup, to whom we donated bras for women who can’t afford them, a situation we never would have considered on our own.

We ended the day listening to live music from an adorable discovery of Debbie Durkin’s, Ryan Boone, while getting mini-neck massages from Yvonne Larson, the Neck Work Expert. I’m paying her a visit in the next couple of weeks for a full-body one, and judging by the tidbit I received at the suite, I have a feeling she’ll be able to work out my bad back issues. Fingers crossed.

STEM CELL BEAUTY INNOVATIONS FACIAL

This one wasn’t a suite, but rather something to help us look fabulous for all the Emmys activities.

I went to a doctor’s office in Beverly Hills to have this mini-facial, featuring Stem Cell Gold Serum, (which is also available for home use.) It’s touted to plump up your skin, and a big event such as the Emmys is the perfect occasion for it.

The facial took only about ten minutes, which everyone should be able to spare for glamour, in my opinion. It consisted of a very quick microdermabrasion followed by the Gold Serum. I finished up with just forty-one seconds of flashing led lights, which activate the nutrients from the serum deep into the layers of the skin, and I was ready for the rest of the Emmys weekend festivities.

The products really did appear to work. I was thrilled that it was my face that got plumper and not my just-lost-eight-punds body!

GBK AND TIC TAC EMMY AWARD GIFT LOUNGE 2011

For the 2011 Emmys, GBK returned to the site of their most gorgeous suite ever, the W Hollywood, and was presented in actual suites of the hotel, which I always get a kick out of because that’s how they began back in the day. The delicious, and classy, catering was done by the hotel, as well. It was all healthful choices, too, of the classic Mediterranean diet variety.

Gown made out of Tic Tacs! You can look gorgeous and have fresh breath at the same time.

Celebrity wrangler Rita Tateel, who used to book me on many a fun event when I was doing my TV show, worked her magic once again because GBK, as usual, seemed to attract the most stars. I’m always thrilled to see Robert Morse there, the most talented person ever to grace a gifting suite, in my opinion. There was also nominee James Wood, and several cast members from eventual winner Modern Family, along with Glee, The Good Wife, and Desperate Housewives, among others.

More importantly, GBK supported several charities, including, Art of Elysium, (who partnered with the important anti-bullying book Just Like You,) CancerCare, Teach For America, and A New Way Of Life.

But, as always, the attraction for me is having the opportunity to let you guys know about some of the wonderful products that this suite gifts to the celebs and VIPS. Let’s get started:

ComforPedic Pillows–So, part of my mother’s recent health issues had to do with swollen legs, and Mr. X keeps telling me that we have to get her some kind of special pillow for them. I had no idea what he was talking about until I came upon these gorgeous ComforPedic pillows by Simmons. They’re like clouds of heaven. (If a company wants to use that name, btw, I’m willing to negotiate.). Not only do they look like the most comfortable things ever, but each one comes contained in it’s own little roll pack, perfect for travel. To Dreamland, that is! comforpedic.com

Revitalash–not only are the products from this leader in the lash thickening business now being presented in new super-smooth packaging that’s incredible to the touch, but it’s also re-formulated to work even faster! The old one has always worked really quickly on my lashes, anyway, so I can’t wait to see what the new one can do! Revitalash also used the occasion to unveil their new lash primer, which you wear under mascara. If only I can get my hands off the new package long enough to apply it! revitalash.com

Ecofirstart.com–this company that culls together major eco-friendly products, including the innovative furniture featured in their particular suite, was giving guests their choice of many products, including jewelry and big, fluffy bathrobes, which must have been made from recycled clouds.ecofirstart.com

The IndiExhibit—this long-time non-profit organization had smartly put together boxes of lovely gifts from many of their talented artisans. I think my two favorites were a leather wristband with a peacock feather, (which often stands for dignity, and beauty,) and boy shorts with “What would your mother do?” emblazoned across the back. I know what mine would do—not let anybody see her undies, no matter how cute they are.
Piggy Pillows–as I’m writing this, I just finally got the name! ”Piggy,” as in “this little piggy went to market.” Because they’re cushions for sandals, which I can’t wait to try after all this Emmys suite-ing. piggypillows.com

Reflect It Apparel—when I saw the product moniker,I erroneously thought these tank tops had reflector tape on them! Rather, they feature motivational messages on the front, which I’m sure most of us can use. reflectitapparel.com

Next week, I’ll tell you about the last Emmys Suite and a special beauty treatment I had to get ready for it all.

SECRET ROOM EMMYS 2011

I arrived back in LA right between Emmys suites, so I was able to get to only three of them this time. But I made my choices count and found some wonderful products to tell you about. There were some fun celebrity sightings as well. Each suite will get its own write-up over the next three days, so please check all of them so you don’t miss out on anything.

I’m going in the order I attended them, so let’s begin with Secret Room, which was held at the classy L’Ermitage Hotel in Beverly Hills this time.

Brothers In Arms stars, Karen Salkin and Antwon Tanner.

A highlight of the suite was hanging out with a cast-mate of mine from Brothers In Arms, Antwon Tanner, (also of One Tree Hill fame.) The film was a period western (just my style of acting, right?,) and we got to know each other over two intense weeks of filming the big bank robbery scene where he and his on-screen brother hold my character hostage and [SPOILER ALERT, like any of you are ever going to see it!,] eventually kill me. [END OF SPOILER ALERT.] He was the nicest one on the set, and I was happy to see he’s exactly the same now. He had a couple of gorgeous family members with him, too.

Here are the highlights of the gifts, with some comments provided by one of my trusty assistants, Vanessa:

Bogace Jeans

Bogace Jeans–Vanessa said, “The flashy stitching will be great fun to wear with a pair of strappy heels to go out dancing. And the stretchy, very soft denim looks like it will feel great on the skin.” What she said. www.bogace.com

Derma Esthetics Skincare—this fabulous skincare line from our own Beverly Hills comes in two formulas, skin brightening and anti-aging, of which I need both! The cleanser, with mineral oil, looks like the most luxurious one of its kind. www.dermaestheticsusa.com

Whitening Lightning Teeth Whitener–girls with very white teeth gave-out teeth whitening kits so we can all look as fabulous as they do. And this company also makes a whitening pen that fits neatly into a purse, no matter how small. And, since my motto is “you should never change anything about your face except teeth,” I think everyone should have one! Especially if they’re British. www.whiteninglightning.com

D'eonli Designs

D’eonli Designs–all this jewelry was gorgeous! I loved the subtly sparkly bracelets and classy diamond-esque earrings, that stay on without an earring back! Beautiful and clever—jewelry just like me! www.deonli.com

Brazilian Peel—this at-home facial peel is professional strength. Anyone who’s planning on attending the Summer Olympics in Rio in a few years should maybe get started now, to fit right in with the gorgeous brazilain women.www.advancedhomeactives.com

Toby and Max Bracelet—they were gifting lovely silver bracelets inscribed with “Be good to yourself” on one side and “Simplify” on the other, two lessons I sorely need to learn! They also have a dog version, (I assume for people to be good to dogs, not the dogs to themselves, which I think is what ball-licking is all about,) and give a portion of their revenue to the Humane Society, who was the charity of the Secret Room Suite. Vanessa deemed the bracelets to be “beauty with a conscience.” You can’t do better than that. www.tobyandmax.com

Sasha Pellow Jewelry

Sasha Pellow Jewelry—a welcome addition to the affordable jewelry game, this artist’s gift was an antique bronze chain with a Buddha charm that’s a replica of one from the 1940s, highlighted by a clear tear drop facet that’s thrown in for good measure. And good luck, I’m assuming! www.sashapellow.com

PumaWatch—to make us aware of our health, and not just fashion, they were giving women pink sports watches, from their Project Pink campaign (to help fight breast cancer,) while men received ones with heart rate monitors. Very honorable gifts, in my opinion. www.puma.com

My Dreambag Wristlet–this company, that’s known for their beautiful leather purses, was gifting sweet little wrist purselets that are perfect for clubs. www.mydreambagboutique.com

Lotty Dotty Tee Shirts–these tees feature what is essentially a paper doll whose separately-sold outfits Velcro right on to the front. Very cute. www.lottydotty.com

Posh AQ Silks–this company was showing one-of-kind, hand-painted, silk outfits, but easy-to-please me was fixated on a black and white textured scarf. www.poshaq.com

Youngblood Cosmetics—this company was giving guests a choice of a mineral powder blush with kabuki brush or a shiny lip gloss; kind-of a make-up Sophie’s Choice. www.ybskin.com

Ballerina Book–a former ballerina was giving away a beautiful book about the iconic holiday ballet, The Nutcracker. It made me wish it was already December! www.growingthrougharts.com

SPRING AND SUMMER 2011 SUITES FOLLOW-UP

Because there are so many gifting suites for each awards show, and times that by about twenty gifts at each one, some of them naturally slip through the cracks of my original suites write-ups. So, before we begin the Emmys season of suites, here are just a few items that I think are great that I didn’t get a chance to tell you about before.

SANUK—when I saw this easy-going footwear at a recent GBK suite, I thought they looked cute and cozy. But I had no idea of just how wonderfully comfortable they would turn-pout to be! OMG! I want to wear them in my sleep! These “sidewalk surfers” are flats, which is still the only thing I can wear because I haven’t fixed my back issue yet. And the Sanuk Fiestas go with everything, so I use them for just about every public activity. I would wear them around the house, too, but why waste the cuteness on myself? www.sanuk.com

FLIP-FLOP SPA–these are quite the unique flip-flops. At first, I thought they were just a pretty face, but they’re so much more. They actually exfoliate your feet while you’re wearing them! How many brands of footwear can claim that distinction? www.flipflopspa.com

BOOGIE BOARD—this is one product I wish I had had during my recent flu and bronchitis siege. It’s so much better than paper and pen for temporary jottings. It’s smaller than a small legal pad and very light to tote around. You “write” on it with an included stylus, and when you’re done with the last notes, you just press a little indent at the top and it clears! Like magic. What would have been better to boss Mr. X around with while I couldn’t talk? www.myboogieboard.com

PRISON BREAK SHIRT BY TATTOO SLEEVES—this is a riot! It’s by the same company that makes the tattoo sleeves that Mr. X, the krumper, wears to shock his peeps. For those of you who were rabid Prison Break fans, as I was, these form-fitting stretchy tops make one’s body resemble Michael Scofield’s, pre-break. Brilliant. Yet a tad scary. www.tattoosleeves.us

This was an interesting new concept in gifting suites–a post-event event. I really appreciated it because, since it was unique, we could concentrate on the one suite without having to rush to others.

I have ten fabulous companies to tell you about, eight of them that are totally new to me, so I’m pretty sure they will be to you, too.

All photos by Karen Salkin.

COTON COLORS POTTERY–this is one of my favorites gifts of all time! I don’t know what else this company offers, but at the suite, they were gifting colorful ceramic plates on a stand, that read “Happy Everything,” a phrase that I’ve been writing on greeting cards my whole life! Then you velcro one of several little ceramic tiles to the top, that explain with pictures just what you’re happy about. (For example, the American flag for the Fourth of July.) I love colors, cute designs, positive sayings, and being happy, so this one is win-win-win-win! I want one of everything this company makes! Then it will really be “Happy Everything” for me! www.coton-colors.com

NORVELL TAN—this was my most fun stop. While everyone else took home this company’s self-tanners, I was the only one who had their upbeat rep, (with a great name,) Rachel Wood, spray-tan me right on-site! She offered, and since I had on very little clothing anyway, which I could easily move around, (the event was right in the ballroom of the SLS Hotel, so I couldn’t exactly strip outright,) I happily accepted. And you know what? It turned-out to be one of the best spray tans I’ve ever gotten! Dancing With The Stars-worthy! And the next day, my skin felt extra soft, which has never happened from a spray tan before. So, I looked and felt great. Lucky Mr. X! www.norvellsunless.com

HOMANZ PURSES–this was one of my favorite sponsors from the previous Secret Room suite. This time, they were featuring lovely summer purses, in whites and creams and reds. And once again, they were in an enchanting summery display of trees and flowers. I love a generous, artistic sponsor. www.homanz.com

AMY MARTINSON PHOTOGRAPHY–this photographer’s pictures were so inviting that I actually thought she was an exotic trip-giving sponsor!!! When I got closer to investigate, I discovered that, in reality, they were photos from her trips to Bora-Bora. Just beautiful. www.amymartinson.com

TAHIZEA PEARL JEWELRY–when I was a little girl, I thought that pearls were the classiest thing one could ever wear. As I grew-up, I felt they were for older woman, although still classy. But when I saw Tahizea’s beautiful cultured pearls from Tahiti, I re-thought my view of pearls once again. These combine class with hipness, and are for everyone. Everyone with a sense of style, that is. www.tahizea.com

MARCO POLO DESIGNS–designer Claude Cruz and his wife Penny made their arrangement of colorful glass jewelry one of the brightest spots of the suite. Each guest was invited to choose from among the many bracelets, necklaces, and earrings on creative display and Penny’s wrapping looked almost as beautiful as the pieces themselves. www.marcopolodesigns.com

MOONSHINED DESIGNS–designer Cate Rubenstein presented her lovely dainty silver earrings in one of the smartest ways I’ve ever noticed at a suite. She had each one in a colorful pouch and attached it to the info sheet that was scrolled-up. She showed everyone the choices and they just picked the proper pouch with no muss or fuss. Or indiscriminate grabbing! www.moonshinedonline.com

iHIP HEADPHONES—every time I see headphones and the like at a suite, I’m thrilled to find something that my krump dancing boyfriend, Mr. X, would be interested in. So, just when I feel he has every kind of headphone known to man, iHip shows up with Yankees ones!!! Which means that he just may have to share with me. Yanks and music—two of the very few things we agree on! www.ihipus.com

LIPS TO LOVE—I’m always interested in discovering a lip plumper that works, since I’ve found that most of them do not. So, I was skeptical when I happened upon this new concept in the field, that features a vibrating applicator, for a little lip massage that’s supposed to help. But you know what? I was showing it to Mr. X, who laughed at first, but then said, “They actually do look a little bigger!” In one try! Whodda thunk it?! www.aminogenesis.com

FLORAGLO VITAMINS—as a big vitamin taker myself, I’m always open to hearing about the latest info on that front. So, I was happy to see them gifting new Women’s One-A-Day Plus Healthy Skin Support, which contains lutein, a protein that helps not just skin but eyesight, as well. The better to see our new beauty! www.floraglolutein.com

BEAUTY CARE CHOICES—speaking of beauty (as I was in the last paragraph,) I’m the biggest girly-girl I know, so of course I was attracted to this colorful table of hair and skin care samples. I don’t even use hair spray, (I actually didn’t know that anyone does anymore,) but the tall pink can with the rhinestone heart on the front had my name on it. If only I had a 1950s vanity on which to feature it! www.haircarechoices.com

DEBBIE DURKIN’S MTV MOVIE AWARDS ECO LOUNGE

I’m so glad that Jury Duty delayed the publishing of my write-up of Debbie Durkin’s Eco Lounge until now because I get to include the absolutely most unbelievable gift ever given at a suite anywhere–an iPad(!), courtesy of JR Entertainment Consulting, one of the sponsors of the event. They’re considered “insurance broker to the stars,” because they provide speciality insurance coverages to the entertainment industry, professional athletes, and their corresponding businesses.

Of course, an iPad, especially this top-of-the-line one, is way too big an item to gift to everyone, so they raffled it off. (I think they told me that they were actually raffling a few of them, but I’m not sure exactly what I heard over the hub-bub of the suite.)

Guests chilling on the grounds of Debbie Durkin's Eco Lounge. All photos by Karen Salkin.

I swear, I never win anything. (Well, not since I was ten and won FiFi, a giant orange stuffed poodle, at the Bucks County, Pennsylvania Fireman’s Carnival. Actually, I was just as thrilled then as I am over my iPad win! And FiFi is still in my room in Brooklyn, as beautiful as ever!) But I had a good feeling when I handed in my entry to the JR rep. Back at home, I kept telling Mr. X to leave me alone about getting a laptop for my New York trips because “I think I’m going to win an iPad.” I never have confidence like that! And this time, it paid-off! I felt like Hines Ward, visualizing his win on Dancing With The Stars. Maybe I should now use my new skill to visualize a successful return to my neglected acting career! (Don’t ask.)

So, trust me, if ever I need professional insurance, (from my mouth to God’s ears that I’ll have a project going that requires it,) I’ll be turning to JR Entertainment Consulting. And I’ll find their info on my new iPad! www.jrentertainmentconsulting.com

As for the rest of Debbie Durkin’s beautiful event, I was happy to see that it returned to the scene of one of her previous suites—a stunning private estate in Hancock Park. The weather was perfect for the outdoor location, and the assemblage definitely enjoyed the fresh air and beautiful atmosphere.

This event was as much about “green” food, provided by Chef Stacie Rauch of The Personal Palette, and lovely live acoustic musical performances, as it was about gifts. But, as always, I had some favorites, so let’s get to them.

R.E.U.S.E. JEANS—how did REUSE know that I needed some new hip jeans right about now? I had gotten away from wearing them for the past couple of years, and had just been wondering why that was the case. And then I spotted this table with all fabulous jeans in different styles, including some of the newer wide-leg ones. I went with one of those pairs, although I was truly tempted by their shorts that some of the reps of the company were rocking. But then I realized that it wouldn’t be fair to foist my oh-so-white legs on the public until I get a spray tan, so I went with long legs. Even better than the great look and fit of REUSE Jeans is that they’re all made from 80% re-cycled denim! That’s why they were featured at this eco lounge, and why it makes me extra-happy to be wearing them. www.reusejeans.com

GOORIN HATS—I’ve seen these nifty chapeaus around town before. They have so many styles that I had a hard time deciding which to choose. I spotted a basic, blue, almost denim-color cap that I figure Mr. X and I can share, since it has no logo on it. I hate advertising for companies, so I have a feeling that it will be my new go-to cap. But if he needs it to krump, I’ll be happy to share. www.goorin.com

HAI MP3 STYLING IRON—this is so amusing and clever—it’s a flat-iron that plays your favorite tunes while you style! I love it because—okay, this involves something Mr. X probably doesn’t want you all to know—he often flat-irons my hair! He complains about doing it, but he’s the best at it, and I don’t have time to go to a hair place all the time, and I can’t reach the back myself because it’s so long. So, if he wants me to look good, tag–he’s it! But he always wears headphones because he can’t be without his precious music ever. (Also, because he doesn’t want to hear me yapping while he’s doing me this huge favor. He once told me, “Kah, I’m not really your hairdresser. I don’t want to hear about your problems with your pals.” Now, with the new Hai MP3 iron, we can both be happy about getting my hair, and my life, straight! www.haiclassic.com

ATHENA’S CUP—when I got around the gift table loop on the lush lawn of the estate, (to what would be the Bradley Terminal position at LAX,) I saw a giant wall of colorful bras! It looked like the mirror in my bedroom after a wild week-end with Mr. X! (Just joking—maybe.) I had to go right over and see what it was about. Turns-out, they’re for a super-worthwhile project, Athena’s Cup, in the fight against breast cancer. They’re asking the public to send-in their old bras (and new ones, too, I believe,) to hook together to create a world record bra-chain. Some celebs signed theirs to be auctioned-off. I really heavily suggest that you visit their site to learn more, and send yours right over to them. I was happy to learn that the company is headquartered in Rhode Island, my favorite state, so I’ll be dropping my own bras off there in the Fall, while picking-up some fresh-baked apple pies for my little mother. What a fun and productive trip that will be! www.athenascup.org

So, finally, that’s it for my MTV Movie Awards Gifting Suites coverage. Whew! I have to go rest-up now for the Emmys ones that will be here sooner than I’ll be prepared for. But, at least I can keep track of all of them on my new iPad. Thanks, JR Entertainment Consulting. And Debbie Durkin, too, of course!
